One rumour to kill immediately: in December 2025, forwarded messages claimed the fee was rising to $35 or even $50. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism officially denied this. As of 2026 the rates remain $25 single-entry and $60 multiple-entry. If that ever changes, our travelers hear about it within 48 hours.

The application form asks you to choose, so decide before you start.

Single-entry ($25): One entry into Egypt, stay up to 30 days. This is the right choice for 95% of travelers — one trip, one entry, done. Every TGF group tour traveler takes this option.

Multiple-entry ($60): Unlimited entries over 6 months, each stay up to 30 days. Choose this only if your itinerary physically leaves Egypt and comes back — for example, Cairo, then Jordan for Petra, then back into Egypt for the Red Sea. It's also worth it for business travelers making repeat trips within half a year.

The trap to avoid: some travelers buy multiple-entry "just in case." Don't. If your trip is a straight in-and-out — which every standard Egypt itinerary is — the extra $35 buys you nothing. And if you later plan an Egypt + Jordan combo, we'll flag the multiple-entry requirement during trip design anyway.

One timing note: don't apply months too early. The single-entry visa has a validity window from issue, so submitting 2-3 weeks before departure is the sweet spot — comfortably clear of the 3-5 day processing time, without burning validity you can't use.

Here is the exact sequence, as my team runs it:

Step 1 — Go to visa2egypt.gov.eg. This is the official Egyptian government portal. Be careful: search results are full of lookalike agency sites charging $60-90 in "service fees" for the same $25 visa. The official portal is the only site you need.

Step 2 — Create an account. Register with your email, verify it, and log in. Use an email you actually check — the approved visa arrives there.

Step 3 — Fill the application form. Enter your details exactly as printed on your passport — name spelling, passport number, dates. Select "Tourism" as the purpose, single or multiple entry, and your arrival date.

Step 4 — Upload your documents. A colour scan of your passport's bio page (all four corners visible, no glare) and a recent passport-style photograph. Some applications also ask for your hotel confirmation and return ticket — have both ready as PDFs.

Step 5 — Pay the fee. $25 or $60 by credit or debit card. International transactions must be enabled on your card; this is the single most common point of failure, so call your bank first if unsure.

Step 6 — Wait 3-5 business days. Most approvals arrive in 3. Don't panic at day 4 — but if you hit day 7 with silence, check your spam folder, then the portal's application status page.

Step 7 — Print two copies. One for your carry-on, one in your checked bag. Immigration at Cairo wants to see the printed PDF alongside your passport. A phone screenshot usually works, but paper never has a dead battery.

Total hands-on time: about 20 minutes. Total cost: $25. That's the entire process.

Gather everything before you open the portal, and the application takes one sitting:

• Indian passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your travel dates, and at least one blank page for the entry stamp • Colour scan of the passport bio page — flat, all corners visible, no fingers, no glare, under the portal's file-size limit • Recent passport-style photo — plain white background, face straight to camera, no glasses, no cap, taken within the last 6 months • Confirmed hotel reservation — a booking confirmation PDF in your name (if you're on a TGF trip, we supply the hotel confirmation letter for the full itinerary) • Return flight ticket — your booked itinerary showing entry and exit from Egypt • Credit or debit card with international transactions enabled for the $25/$60 payment

Two details that trip people up:

Name mismatches. The name on the application must match your passport character for character. If your passport says "HITHU HARIHARAN," don't type "Hithu H." The system — and the immigration officer — compares strings, not intentions.

The photo. This is the most commonly rejected document. Studio-taken or a proper phone photo against a plain wall in daylight both work; a cropped wedding photo does not. Spend the ₹150 at a photo studio and remove all doubt.

Yes, Indian passport holders can also get a visa on arrival at Cairo International Airport, at the same $25 fee, from the bank counters just before immigration. You pay in USD cash, get a visa sticker, and join the immigration queue.

So why do I still push everyone toward the e-Visa? Operations experience.

The case against relying on visa on arrival: you've just landed at 2 or 3 AM after an 8-hour journey. The counter queue at that hour can be 20 minutes or an hour depending on how many flights landed together. You need exact USD cash. And if any document question comes up, you're resolving it at a counter in an airport, jet-lagged, instead of from your sofa two weeks earlier. Airlines at check-in in India also occasionally ask to see an Egyptian visa before boarding — a printed e-Visa ends that conversation instantly; "I'll get it on arrival" sometimes starts a longer one.

When visa on arrival genuinely makes sense: a last-minute trip booked inside the 5-day processing window, or an emergency travel situation. It's a perfectly legal, functional option — Egypt is one of the few bucket-list countries that gives Indians this flexibility, and it's a good safety net to know about.

The TGF rule: every traveler flies with an approved e-Visa in hand. Predictable arrivals are happy arrivals. On our group trips, your airport pick-up is waiting outside — we'd rather you spend those 40 minutes meeting your group than standing in a visa queue.

Egypt's tourist e-Visa approval rate for genuine Indian travelers is very high — this is a country that wants tourists. When rejections happen, it's almost never about who you are; it's about paperwork errors. These are the culprits, in the order we see them:

1. Passport validity under 6 months. The number one killer. If your passport expires within 6 months of your travel dates, renew it before applying — there is no workaround.

2. Blurry or cropped passport scans. If the machine-readable zone (those two lines of characters at the bottom of your bio page) isn't sharp and complete, expect trouble. Re-scan flat, in good light.

3. Photo problems. Sunglasses, caps, busy backgrounds, heavy filters, or a photo that's clearly years old. See the checklist above — a ₹150 studio photo removes the risk.

4. Name or passport-number mismatches. One transposed digit in a passport number is an automatic problem. Type it, then check it twice.

5. Missing or unverifiable hotel booking. A booking that was cancelled before processing completed, or a confirmation not in the applicant's name.

6. Payment failures. International transactions disabled on the card, leading to half-submitted applications.

What if you are rejected? Don't panic. Fix the specific issue, reapply with the fee, and in most cases the corrected application goes through in the same 3-5 days. There's no blacklist for a paperwork rejection.
